Marsha Pond is uniquely qualified to assist in projects that require tourism expertise, experienced strategic and business planning and innovative but practical thinking.

 

Ms. Pond has been active in the tourism and hospitality industry in Canada for more than 25 years, completing successful six (6) year tenure in her most senior position as Executive Director of Tourism for Nova Scotia (assistant deputy minister status) in March 2006. During that time Marsha was instrumental in Nova Scotia winning two TIAC National Tourism Awards for Excellence in marketing within a three year period, 2003 and 2005. She has held senior tourism positions in Nova Scotia, Atlantic Canada and Canada in strategic marketing, project assembly and partnership development and management. As a senior member of the Atlantic Canada Tourism Partnership (ACTP) she has an extensive network and knowledge of tourism in this region.

 

Marsha has been pivotal in the negotiation of significant public and private sector agreements and partnerships including with major transportation companies, airlines and many of the most influential tourism partners operating in eastern Canada. She is currently a member of the Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC) national industry advisory committee for The Americas (the United States and Mexico).

 

Under her "watch" as Executive Director, managing a budget of $20 million annually, Nova Scotia experienced consistent tourism growth and earned millions of dollars in incremental provincial government investment with proven return on investment.

 

Marsha Pond has extensive market knowledge and marketing experience as it pertains to Canada, the United States, the UK, Iceland and German-speaking Europe, and has explored market potential in China. Her expertise in tourism and cultural development, strategic planning, government relations and policy development and tactical execution is extensive and proven. She has been involved in the successful development of national tourism programs such Brand Canada (2004-05) with the Canadian Tourism Commission; the planning, funding and execution of major events such as the meeting of the G-7 in Halifax, the World Figure Skating Championships and Tall Ships events.

 

Born in St. John's NL, Marsha is a graduate of Memorial University of Newfoundland and a long-time resident of Halifax. She holds an APR designation from the Canadian Public Relations Society. She is President of her own consulting firm, Broad Reach Strategies Ltd.

 

Marsha Pond is regularly engaged for strategic input by associated consulting firms and agencies throughout Atlantic Canada and has the ability to organize an effective consulting group for tourism, community development, marketing and business planned projects.

 

Among her completed projects since April of 2006:

  • Contracted for strategic marketing, project development and corporate communications services and projects to hospitality leader, Pacrim Hospitality Services Inc of Halifax (2006 to present);
  • Completed major feasibility/business plan for a destination resort in rural New Brunswick (2007);
  • Completed a branding project with Destination  Southwest Nova Scotia Tourism Association (2007);
  • Served as senior Content Consultant on the development of a Strategic Tourism Marketing Plan for the New Brunswick Department of Tourism and Parks (2008);
  • Completed a comprehensive Business Plan for a multi-million dollar destination/ attraction resort in Nova Scotia for Millbrook First Nation (2009);
  • Completing a strategic plan for Coaching Development in Nova Scotia (underway);
  • Tourism specialist on a major transportation study team underway in southwestern Nova Scotia (underway).
